Jakarta Metro Police announced it will set out the motorcycle convoy route in the capital city of Jakarta ahead of the Mandalika MotoGP. The route will be used by President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, and the GP riders as part of a parade event that precedes the MotoGP event.
The Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Commissioner Endra Zulpan on Thursday said he had just heard about the plan for the MotoGP riders’ parade with the President and the Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno.
“There will be 20 riders together with the President who will promote [the racing event] by riding together in Jakarta ahead of the Mandalika race,” said the police spokesperson on March 10.
He added that the parade will be safeguarded by a joint security team involving members from the Armed Forces (TNI) and Presidential Security Force (Paspampres).
During the motorcycle parade, police will temporarily close a number of streets in the capital city. “We support the government’s decision. This has good intentions to promote Indonesia’s tourism and show that the country has emerged from challenges faced during the pandemic,” said Zulpan.
